3 Things to Watch Out For in The Titans Preseason Finale

The Tennessee Titans are entering their final preason game on saturday the 28th, and are coming off of back-to-back wins that have left fans in disappointment. This will be the last game for players to shine, roster spots to finalize, and fans to have confidence. Here are three things to watch out for in the Titans preseason finale:

Carnell Tate Receptions

Through two games, Titans rookie wide receiver Carnell Tate does not have a catch, despite being targeted 5 times. One ball was placed well on the sideline, but Tate was unable to bring it in, and the others have all been missed throws.

Tate going two quarters of football without a catch is not something to be concerned about, especially when added that Tate has been Cam Ward's favorite target through training camp and join practices, and has performed well. It just has not been translating into the games so far.

If Tate doesn't make a catch in this week's game, it may start to be a little concerning that him and Ward are struggling to connect in a game setting; however, it wouldn't be something to start blaring the alarms about.

The main reason they need to make a few connections is to increase the confidence in their connection going into the regular season. This pair has the opportunity to be great in the NFL, and they just have to get it rolling.

Continued improvement from Ward

Cam Ward's first preseason game of the 2026 season was nothing to ride home about; he finished 5-12 for 57 yards and made some big mistakes with the football in his hand. Last week saw improvement up to 8-12 for 69 yards, and he has multiple good throws that were either unable to be reeled in by the receivers or a possible missed penalty.

We saw improvement from the first game to the second, and seeing him keep up that trend could go a long way going into the regular season.

The early struggle makes sense; Ward is playing for an entirely new coaching staff that is adjusting his mechanics, playstyle, and decision making. Seeing him improve and get more comfortable in the system will happen with every passing week. If we see him put together a good few drives on saturday, it will be a good sign going into the regular season.

Better safety play

It is no secret that the Titans saw their starting defense get blown out by the backup offense of the Seattle Seahawks. The position group that the worst were the safeties.

Kevin Winston gave up a big play touchdown when him and Alontae Taylor went and covered the same area, allowing the tight end running a seam to be wide open. They then were unable to bring down the runningback on a long touchdown where he shot right up the middle untouched to the endzone.

Winston and Hooker are slated to be the starters, and if they perform the way they have been, the Titans secondary is looking bleak. They need to bounce back and play a good defensive game against the Bears.

There is so much to look for in this final game, as roster cuts are due sunday, but these were three specific things the Titans need to accomplish this weekend.
