Should The Tennessee Titans Trade Down?

We are officially in April which means only one thing for football fans: the draft is almost here. There is no shortage in rumors of what the Tennessee Titans will choose to do with their pick, ranging from selecting Jeremiyah Love 4th overall to a proposed trade using Will Levis to trade up with the New York Jets.

One of the big ideas that has been floating around all offseason is to trade down. There are multiple teams with two first round picks that may be attempting to trade up to pick four for talent, and the Titans can use these teams to stack up on draft capital.

The Titans still have multiple holes on their roster to fill; Wide receiver, edge rusher, and the interior offensive line are all weak position groups. Titans fans have fell in love with the idea of getting running back Jeremiyah Love from Notre Dame with the fourth pick, but as good as he may be, drafting him will leave holes on this roster.

There are 2 teams that could be most likely to trade up with Tennessee: Kansas City and Dallas. The Chiefs have picks 9 and 29 due to the Trent McDuffie trade, and they could be a team willing to trade up to pick 4 for either a star receiver or a key defensive player. A package of the 2 firsts as well as a later or future pick should be taken by the Titans immediately. The Cowboys have picks 12 and 20, and have been rumored to trade up in an attempt to get David Bailey from Texas Tech to fill the role Micah Parsons left.

If the Titans find themselves with two first round picks there is a good chance they will draft an edge rusher and a wide receiver with those selections, as they are arguably their biggest needs. Getting a young star in those two positions could help instantly elevate this team.

Potential wide receivers with a trade down include:

  • Jordyn Tyson (Arizona State)

  • Makai Lemon (USC)

  • Omar Cooper Jr. (Indiana)

  • KC Conception (Texas A&M)

  • Denzel Boston (Washington)

Potential edge rushers with a trade down include:

  • Keldric Faulk (Auburn)

  • Cashius Howell (Texas A&M)

  • Akheem Mesidor (Miami)

  • Zion Young (Missouri)

  • T.J Parker (Clemson)

Wild Cards with a trade down include:

  • Peter Woods, DT (Clemson)

  • Jermod McCoy, CB, (Tennessee)

  • Sonny Styles, LB (Ohio State)

I think getting 2 of these players trumps getting Jeremiyah Love any day. The Titans need so much talent so stacking up on picks could serve them well.
