The Tennessee Titans allowed Harold Landry III to Seek a Trade: What Does This Mean?

It's finally happened, the best Titan is about to be gone. Harold Landry holds a cap hit of $24.05 million dollars, and can save the Titans either $10.9 million or $17.5 million depending on the time of the trade. This will, however, leave a large hole in the defense, as last season, Landry was the sack leader for Tennessee, and has been a consistent pass rusher since his rookie season.
Will anyone trade for Landry? He is 28 years old and has a large contract, meaning the Titans probably won't be able to get much more than a day three pick out of this deal. If nobody does call the Titans about a trade, then he may either be released post June 1st in order to save the full $17.5 million, or may take a restructured deal for the 2025 season to free up some cap space. At the very least this will be an opportunity for Landry to sign with a contender and be utilized to his best ability at his age: a second option to apply pressure.

What does this mean for the Titans? If the Titans end up without Landry, they are at a major weakness in the edge position. They would be left with only Arden Key, who is another player with the potential to be released, so they will have to look in free agency and the draft. The Titans have the opportunity to draft a potentially generational pass rusher in Abdul Carter from Penn State, as well as many other high-bar options, who will all be much cheaper.
Landry has had a great career with Tennessee, but all good things must come to an end. Landry has lost a burst he had previous to his torn ACL, and is a major cap casualty for Tennessee, so even if they can get a day three pick out of moving on from Landry, it may be time to move on.
