Grading the Tennessee Titans 2024 Draft Class One Year Later (Rounds 1-6)

The Tennessee Titans held the 7th Pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. This was previous general manager Ran Carthon's 2nd draft class with the team, and I'm here today to look at each draft pick the Titans made and grade how they performed.

J.C. Latham: B+

With the 7th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans Selected offensive tackle J.C. Latham. The "Trench King", who went to college at the University of Alabam, was on the all SEC first team in 2023, and showcased dominance over defenders with his time in college. In training camp, videos on social media went viral of the trench king having his way with the training sled, and fans were hopeful this 6 foot 6, 342 beast would do on the football field. Latham, like almost every other rookie, had some struggles in his rookies season, giving up seven sacks, 11 hits, and 47 pressures. Despite the struggles, Latham still showed growth over the season and was a major improvement over recent seasons at the left tackle position. Latham, paired with 2023 first round pick Peter Skoronski, are showing to be a great pairing for the future of the Titans offensive line and protecting the blind side of their future QB1.

T'Vondre Sweat: A-

With the 38th pick of the 2024 NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans selected defensive tackle T'Vondre Sweat. "Meatloaf" was originally likely going to be a first round selection before falling down the draft boards to due to being arrested for a suspected DUI. This made this pick a controversial one amongst Titans fans, as some fans didn't want one who may have a negative impact on the locker room. Sweat shined in college while playing for the Texas Longhorns, earning an all Big-12 first team award, the Big-12 Defensive Player of the Year award, an unanimous all american honor, and being awarded the Outland Trophy. Many Titans fans worried about T'Vondre not being able to play most snaps on defense, however he played nearly 700 snaps, ranking 21st upon defensive lineman. Sweat put up 2 sacks, 2 hits, 23 pressures and a forced fumble + fumble recovery. In addition to his solid pass rush, Meatloaf was one of the best run stoppers in the league amongst defensive lineman. At the end of the season, Sweat was awarded to the PWFA NFL all rookies team, and shows great potential for the future and has proved all the doubters wrong.

Cedric Gray: D+

With the 106th pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans selected linebacker Cedric Gray. This 2x All ACC first team and second team All American out of North Carolina was hoped to come in and be a solid piece for the Titans struggling interior linebacker group. Unfortunately, Gray was placed on injured reserve way back in August with a Shoulder injury and didn't return until very late in the season. When he returned, Gray mainly played special teams to round at out the seasons but played fairly well for that unit, including being the highest rated special teamer for the Titans in the week 16 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. We didn't get to see much with this young linebacker, but the Titans remain hopeful that he can be a solid piece in the future, however a change at general manager may make that slightly more difficult.

Jarvis Brownlee Jr: A

With the 146th pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans got a steal in Jarvis Brownlee Jr. The cornerback out of Louisville didn't have much hype going into the season, especially since he was the cb4 on the depth chart behind L'Jarius Sneed, Chidobe Awuzie, and Roger McCreary. Due to Awuzie's preseason injury, leading to him missing a chunk of the season, and Sneed's early season ending injury, Brownlee was thrown into the fire. Due to him being a late round rookie, teams threw the ball at Brownlee a lot, and he stood his ground. He forced many pass breakups and even got an interception late in the season. He did have many flags thrown for pass interference, however some were questionable, and the others show just how physical of a defender Brownlee is. He is highly competitive and could be a solid cornerback for the future of the Titans.

Jha'Quan Jackson: C

With the 182nd pick in the 2024 NFL draft, the Tennessee Titans selected wide reciever Jha'Quan Jackson. Good friends with Titans runningback Tyjae Spears, Jackson also went to Tulane, where he earned a 3rd team All ACC honor. Jackson was mainly used in special teams, where he would be the teams main kick and punt returner. Despite leading the AFC in pro bowl votes for kick returning at one point, Jackson was mediocre at best. He had a low average when returning and ran side to side more than he ran forward, as well as botching a few punts and being benched at the position. Jackson only added one reception for 8 yards and one carry for -5 yards on offense.
