On Thursday, July 18th, the Tennessee Titans signed former Fresno State running back Jordan Mims to a two-year deal. With this, they also subsequently released Tyrion Davis-Price.

Mims was a standout in his college career with Fresno State, where in his senior year he eclipsed 1300 rushing yards on the season and 18 touchdowns, helping him earn a First-Team All-Mountain West honor. Despite his impressive statistics, Mims would be undrafted in the 2023 draft, where he would sign to the Buffalo Bills practice squad. After being released by the Bills, he would sign to the New Orleans Saints practice squad, where he would find his way to the active roster. Over the course of two seasons, he would would get 141 total yards from scrimmage.
This deal from the Titans perspective seems like they are just giving him a shot to make the roster, however the two-year signing is telling. Mims has been seen as a player who can step up if a starter is lost due to injury, and the Titans have a rather injury prone running back core of Tony Pollard and particularly Tyjae Spears.
I imagine Mims will make an attempt for the roster spot over Julius Chestnut, who may find his way to the practice squad if he does not win the roster spot over Jordan Mims.
All in all, this is nothing more than a depth signing for the Titans. They got a player who they think can step up if needed, and I hope he makes his way to the 53-man roster.
